Solve the Mystery of Wheel Damage
This week we’ll look at the various ways your wheels can get damaged and how to avoid them.
Cellphone Use
Can your cellphone cause damage to your rims? Not directly, but it is likely the contributing factor to curb rash and other objects you might drive into while paying more attention to your phone rather than what is on the road. Put your cellphone away when your vehicle is in motion. This can save your life, other’s lives and your wheels!
Parallel Parking
This one is a biggie. If you are not accustomed to parallel parking it can be easy to scrape up your rims during a night out on the town or just parking along the curb in a new area. Check out this video about how to properly parallel park. If all else fails, have someone guide you from outside the car!
Dust from Braking
Did you know that your brakes create a fine powder each time you brake? Eventually this dark dust can settle on your wheel’s metal, melt and cause it to look discolored and pitted. There is no need to purchase new wheels or rims, at Phoenix Rim Repair we can easily remove this unsightly gunk from your wheel surface and refinish it to look brand new!
Potholes
Just one roll over a gnarly pothole can be enough to severely damage your rim. You may not even notice it until hours or days later. It is important to be aware of these road hazards because even if it doesn’t cause damage the first time, potholes can get worse with continual traffic or bad weather and eventually become a real problem. It is a good idea to inspect your rims immediately if you have encountered a pothole and take photographs of the damage. Although rumored to be a lengthy process, in many cases, the city will reimburse you if you have to get a wheel repair due to a pothole.
